So strange how time can be so slow and so fast. I will never forget how slowly the pediatric resident shared Jillian Lundblad’s blood counts with me on January 15, 2002. I remember processing the change that took place in the blood counts overnight and slowly collapsing to the floor when I knew that my child had leukemia.
I remember the calls I made and the food I cooked because we were being admitted to the hospital. I remember how Jillian chose a jump rope from the treasure box as her reward for enduring an inter-muscular injection of chemotherapy in both of her thighs. She took about 3 skips over the rope before sitting down from exhaustion. I remember the hours of waiting to see the doctor, to get the results back, and to get the chemo or the procedure done. I never complained because I was the nurse who was responsible for keeping parents and kids waiting for an accumulated lifetime in my exam room for the same treatments.
So fast that we get here today
