My name is Monique Bean, and in 1999 I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/service/h/hlh/about). I spent one year in the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and a year and a half undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed.
During my time of receiving chemotherapy, my parents signed me up to be a "wish kid." It was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had (despite the circumstances), from the way they treated me and my family to my trip to Disney World. I just want to add some hope in as many kids' lives as I can reach to show them that I once was in their shoes, and now look how I’ve filled my life. Sometimes you don't hear that hope when it's coming from family members and other loved ones, but when it's from someone who has literally felt what you’re going through, you tend to take heed.
The confidence I see rising in others, after I tell them my past, gives me confidence to accept myself for who I am through everything that I’ve been and going through. I’m BLESSED walking in my PURPOSE.
Thank you for your support!
