Dear friends, family and community members,
My name is Riddhi. I’m an 17-year-old from Portland and I am a 2024 Make-A-Wish Oregon Wish Ambassador!
As a Wish Ambassador, it is my job to spread the life-changing hope, strength, and joy that a wish provides to other local kids and families. With my respiratory disorder, I know how it feels to have the constant uncertainty and scary reality of not knowing when or even if I will get better when I get sick.
A wish reminds kids that dreams are worth dreaming because there are kind people in the world who care enough about them to help make their dreams come true. I want to help bring the unmatched, warm feeling the magic of a wish creates to as many kids as possible.
My wish was to learn how to play the piano. Music and singing are almost forms of therapy for me, so learning to play the piano brings more of this healing music into my life every day. I vividly remember standing in the store, excited and in disbelief that I was there to get a piano. We went down to the basement where they had a beautiful selection of baby grand pianos and my amazing music teacher sat at a piano marked for Make-A-Wish. Just seeing its beauty was mesmerizing, but when my teacher played it, I got lost in the beauty of its sound. I still cannot believe that very piano is sitting in my house today and I get to play it every day.
My wish coming true has given me more than a piano. It has given me, and will continue to give me, a life filled with music and joy. Wishes are so important because they remind kids that even in the worst of times, life still has a little bit of magic in store for everyone and that miracles do happen.
