When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. The majority of wish kids go on to beat their critical illnesses, and research shows that a wish can help children build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight – giving them a better chance of surviving and thriving.
Make-A-Wish is a global charity whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Throughout its history, spanning three decades, Make-A-Wish has become the world’s largest wish-granting organization - granting the wishes of more than 300,000 children in the United States and its territories. Together, with a network of over 35,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish for a child every 34 minutes.
It is the spirit of community service that has brought the Sisters of Chi Omega into the Make-A-Wish family. Chi Omega chapters, collegians, and alumnae support the mission of Make- A-Wish through volunteering, fundraising, and hosting special events.
Since the program officially began in 2002, the work of Chi Omega collegians and alumnae has enabled Make-A-Wish to better serve children with critical illnesses. With over 20,000 volunteers, Chi Omegas have raised over $28 million and have volunteered more than 1.2 million volunteer hours. Chi Omegas are also connected to Make-A-Wish as staff members, volunteers, former wish children, and wish families.
Every day, 70+ children are diagnosed with a critical illness and count on donors like us to help make their wish come true.
