For the past 20 years, I have done a benefit run for Make-A-Wish at Pathfinder K-8, where I was the PE teacher for 16 years. What made the run so ultra special for me was the enthusiasm and energy that the Pathfinder students brought to the event, where students, inspired by the Make-A-Wish mission of providing Spectacular Wishes for children with critical illnesses, would run between 4 – 14 miles. Over the past 20 years, the Pathfinder Community, my friends, family and other donors have raised over $100,000 for Make A Wish.
Sadly the run with the Pathfinder students has been discontinued, so I sought out a new challenge for a Make-A-Wish fundraiser this year and I have found the perfect one.
I was born in Boston and year after year I would watch the Boston Marathon and thought how great it would be to run the Boston Marathon one day. Unfortunately, you need to be an elite runner to qualify for the run and being 73, that’s definitely not me. However, they now have a Boston Marathon Walk and on October 6th, I will have the thrill of a lifetime as I will get to walk the exact 26.2 mile course that the Marathon participants race every April.
I have been a Make-A-Wish volunteer for over 28 years and I have seen firsthand how much joy and hope that each Wish provides the Wish child and their family, so I will once again ask for your generosity in supporting Make-A-Wish by making a donation.
