Dear Friends and Family,
On January 22nd, 2014, 15 year-old Marquette University High School Sophomore Greg Von Rueden lost a courageous battle against Osteosarcoma. Throughout his difficult journey, Greg's friends and family came together and supported him by going "Yellow for Greg," and reminding him that "No one fights alone."
After Greg's passing, the Southeastern Wisconsin basketball community came together to support the Von Rueden family with "Yellow Whistles for Greg," an event honoring Greg that since 2014 has raised over $70,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and helped grant wishes for Wish Kids Collin, Hayden, Drake, Brett, Katie, Graham, Araceli, and Lucy. This year, we are trying to help Everlie, a 5-year old girl living with cystic fibrosis. Everlie enjoys riding her bike, playing with her dog, playing Uno, playing house with friends, watching movies, playing hide n' seek, going to Culver's, and swimming. She wishes to have a swimming pool this summer!
The Wisconsin Basketball Officials Association (WBOA) and other official associations across the state are continuing the Yellow Whistles for Greg campaign from January 20th – 24th. Once again, officials will be wearing yellow whistles in Greg's honor and encouraged to make a donation to Make-A-Wish.
As many of you know, the Von Rueden family is well-respected in the Wisconsin basketball officiating community, with Greg's father Dennis, brothers Bobby and Jake and several other immediate family members who are also basketball officials.
Please help by contributing any amount you can - $30, $50, $100 or even more! Every dollar you donate can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives. Through Make-A-Wish, the Von Rueden family traveled to San Diego shortly before Greg’s passing and that trip remains an incredible memory for the family. By donating today, you can help provide such a memory to another Make-A-Wish family.
Thank you for your support!
