When I was 12 years old I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and told I needed a heart transplant to live. I went from being an active and healthy kid, to being homebound on the waiting list for a new heart.
As a kid, I knew that I was very sick, but I also felt very confident that I would be okay. After 832 days (but who’s counting?) on the transplant waiting list, my life was saved when a family chose to donate life. During those 2 ½ years on the waiting list, my family was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our family, friends, neighbors, and strangers!
It would take me hours to tell you all of the thoughtful and loving things that were done for me and my family during my illness. But my favorite memory (by far) is my Make a Wish! I chose to visit the set of my favorite TV show, Psych!
My family spent four days in Vancouver and got to meet the stars, watch them film, and even “steal” a prop or two from the set. It was probably the best day of my life… besides the day I got the call for my new heart!
Today, as a healthy 25 year old, I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than giving back to the organization that literally granted me the wish of a lifetime. Thank you for your support!
