The Lisznyai Christmas House is located in NE Columbia, SC. Decorating for Christmas is a family tradition, going back 3 generations. My grandparents began the tradition, lighting their house and making their own yard decorations 70 years ago. My dad continued the tradition, adding to the decorations. When I got married, the tradition passed to me. We’ve been decorating for our 23 years of marriage (11 years in our current location) and each year it gets a little bit bigger. Luckily, we have GREAT neighbors!
Four years ago, our daughter, Katelyn, asked to begin raising money for Make-A-Wish South Carolina. We decided to put a box out front so that anyone who came by to see the display could contribute. This year we have been asked to add an online option for those who don’t live nearby.
2020 has been difficult for all of us but imagine what it was like for someone with a critically ill child. All money raised goes to Make-A-Wish South Carolina to help make every wish come true. Together, we can continue to be a light of hope throughout this time of crisis - and beyond. Thank you for your support!
• It takes over 200 hours each year to decorate our house for the holidays.
• We start the weekend after Halloween and have our official lighting on Thanksgiving. (Although this year, we were asked by neighborhood children to light the house on Halloween day.)
• The Santa in our sleigh is the oldest decoration, made by my grandmother. It is over 65 years old.
