Welcome!
BAF was proud to be part of Cody Dorman's journey to see his namesake horse, Cody's Wish win the Dirt Mile Race for the second year in a row as part of our Breeder's Cup Sponsorship. Sadly, Cody passed away after suffering a "medical event" on the family's way home to Kentucky after attending the race this year. He was 17.
Cody was born with the rare genetic disorder Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, and the effects include delayed growth and development, low muscle tone and seizures.
Cody first met Cody's wish during a Make-A-Wish visit to Godolphin's Gainsborough Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, when Cody's Wish was a 5-month-old weanling in 2018. The animal walked over to Dorman's wheelchair and put his head in Cody's lap, creating such a connection that Godolphin decided a year later to name the horse after Dorman.
Cody wanted to be able to grant other children their wishes so they could have the same special joyful moments he had. He went to Santa when he was 12 and asked Santa for money. His mom asked Cody "why he wanted money," and Cody responded that "he wanted to give the money back to Make-A-Wish." He specifically wanted to donate to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. He wanted the money to go to the local chapter to grant local wishes.
To continue Cody's legacy and wish, we are conducting the Cody's Santa Project drive to raise money that will help critically ill children in central and eastern Kentucky receive their heartfelt wish, giving them the power of hope this holiday season. You can simply donate $1/$5/$10 or more to the Stars For Wishes program and get a star(s) with your name to be posted throughout BAF in December and January.
Our hearts are with the Dorman Family this holiday season.
Thanks for your support!
