Despite fighting Hunters Syndrome, Alexander continues to be a happy, funny,10-year-old. His heartfelt wish is to have a Turks & Caicos themed room redo!
Meet Alex: Alex is very active! He loves to run and play in the park. He enjoys playing with firetrucks and playing games on his iPad! Alex has an interest in art. He enjoys coloring, stamping, and painting. His favorite food is chicken nuggets and veggie sticks!
Alex is battling Hunters Syndrome which is a lysosomal storage disease caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S). The lack of this enzyme causes heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate to accumulate in all body tissues.
When volunteers met with Alex, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to wish for at first. But then, he remembered how much he loves to swim, and decided to go to Turks & Caicos so he can swim in the crystal, blue water. Given our ever-changing world and travel restrictions during COVID-19.
Alex has decided to reimagine his wish and bring the beach to him! Alex will be getting a beach room redo inspired by the beaches in Turks & Caicos and is looking forward to seeing the beach every day! For a child like Alex with a critical illness, planning his room redo is giving him the opportunity to create a room he can enjoy for years to come!
For 40 years, Make-A-Wish has brought transformational wishes to more than 330,000 children and families. But we're not done yet.
Your donation today will help make every wish come true. Together, we can continue to be a light of hope throughout this time of crisis - and beyond.
