Will you help our CCNCDA grant wishes for local wish kids like Lucas?
Most two-year-olds have nothing to worry about. They seem to be the happiest people in the world, as they just get to play, eat, and watch cartoons all day long. However, this was not the case for Lucas. On October 29, 2019, at the young age of two years old, he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
During the next three years, Lucas would endure major treatments of chemotherapy at Valley Children’s where he was referred to Make-A-Wish by his social worker.
At the age of five, Lucas was quickly admitted into the Wish Process. When trying to pick his dream wish, Lucas knew that he wanted to do something that his whole family could experience together. Since Lucas was a very outdoorsy kid, who loved to run around and play with his whole family, he knew that Hawaii would be the perfect place for him and his family to go.
Finally, in 2022, it was time for Lucas to finally get his wish granted and take a trip to the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii, with his family.
Our CCNCDA members were thrilled to have the opportunity to provide Lucas a great “sendoff” right before his trip to Hawaii.
“CCNCDA gave not only Lucas, but all of our family a wonderful celebration before our trip,” said Leticia, “they gave us awesome beach bags and towels, goodie bags for the road, and they even provided some Kona Ice Snow Cones for Lucas and his brothers.”
Having fun might be an understatement, as Lucas enjoyed everything about his trip. The major highlights of the trip for Lucas were being able to go to his first Luau, play on the beach with his family, and just being able to spend quality time with his loved ones.
Our CCNCDA members were able to see firsthand that the experience and memories Lucas got to make was more than just a trip, but a symbol of the joy and hope that can be found after so much darkness in one’s life.
