Welcome to the first step in my journey to the 2018 'Wish Jump', a campaign raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation that involves me jumping out of a perfectly good (and beautiful) airplane at 13,000' in honor of children living with terminal illnesses.
When I moved back to New York from college out West, one of my first friends in the area was the Sloan/White family. Justice White is a former Wish Kid, as she was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a liver and lung disease that was expected to take her life at the age of 4 years old. I met her when she was 14.
Justice's spirit, her thirst for life, and her relentless dedication towards helping others is contagious. She is outgoing, caring, humble, and giving.
I have watched her, year after year, raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation's 'Believe Campaign,' where Macy's donates $1 for every 'letter to Santa' they receive. Justice has single-handedly raised over $500,000 for the organization through this campaign. At about $10,000 per wish, that's wishes granted to 50 children with terminal illnesses.
Her selflessness has inspired me to help raise money alongside her, however this time, it isn't for letters to Santa. This time, it's for jumping out of an airplane. I'm an aviator. I fly planes. But, here I am, signing up to jump out of a one in honor of children who just want the chance to feel like kids again, even if only for a day.
Please help me reach my participation goal of $1,000, and additionally my personal goal of $1,200 total. All proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish foundation, and you are cordially invited to watch me jump out of my first airplane on the day of the event (July 21, 2018, at Skydive the Ranch - 55 Sandhill Rd., Gardiner, NY).
