Delta Evening of Wishes has grown into a premier fundraising event in the Delta. This event has made the wishes of many children throughout the Delta come true. That is why we were sad to have to cancel the event due to COVID-19.
But we are not going to be deterred. Too many children with critical illnesses are dependent on us to make their life-changing wishes come true. No matter the circumstances, every child deserves a childhood. Your support gives children much-needed hope for brighter days ahead.
Make-A-Wish Mississippi currently has 169 children waiting for a wish. Of those, 17 are from the Delta including Emily, 15. Emily has a kidney disorder. Emily has had scarring on her kidney filters and until this day doesn't have a true diagnosis as to why. She has been through various treatments, taken chemo drugs and used a Hemo dialysis machine before ending up with peritoneal dialysis at home. Then in March 2020, Emily received the call that she was a match for a kidney transplant. Since the transplant, she is doing much better and has a chance for a normal teenage life. What better reward for a hard fought victory, than to have her wish to go to Atlantis come true.
While we can't meet in person to make wishes like Emily's come true, we can still help make wishes come true for children in the Delta. Each of us are needed to make these waiting wishes come true. Last year, the event raised $100,000. Our goal for 2020 is $50,000. We ask sponsors and past attendees to give the level that you would have sponsored or the amount you would have given.
For individuals and business owners, please keep in mind that the CARES Act allows for new charitable deduction limits for 2020 only. Corporations may deduct up to 25% of taxable income, up from the previous limit of 10%. Individuals who itemize their tax deductions are allowed an additional $300 deduction for charitable contribution (consult your accountant for details).
Your donation today will help make every wish come true. Together, we can continue to be a light of hope throughout this time of crisis - and beyond.
Thank you for your support!
