Most of you all know Annabelle’s life story. You may not know that a huge part of her recovery was an unforgettable experience with Make-A-Wish. Her doctor suggested we work quickly and sign her up because she was really struggling. Her first wish was to meet Will Smith…He wasn’t granting wishes so the next best thing was to head down to Universal Studios Orlando and defend the universe on the Men in Black Ride. We stayed, as a family, at the Give the Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida. Barney and Friends were there to greet us along with a full Indiana Jones outfit for Spencer(whip/hat included). Magdalene and their Dad enjoyed getting ice cream any hour of the day at the Starlite Scoops Ice Cream Parlor.
What made this so incredible was that it gave us time as a family to be in the moment. She must have ridden that Men in Black ride ten times in a row. Her sweet catatonic face would stare at the ride operator and she would give a weak thumbs up, meaning she wanted to go again.
After witnessing what this adventure did for Annabelle and our family, I promised to someday be a volunteer for this impactful, life-changing foundation.
I am proud to say I am now a Wish Granter for Make-A-Wish Mid Atlantic!! We are having a WISH Luncheon-Women Inspiring Strength and Hope- to celebrate the impact of granting wishes for children with critical illnesses.
