Dear Friends and Family,
I started this fundraiser to help grant wishes for children battling critical illnesses.
Wish kids are some of the bravest, sweetest kids you will ever know! One that inspired me to accept this Grand Rapids Triathlon challenge is our close friend and neighbor, Trevor VanSkiver.
At the very young age of two, Trev was diagnosed with Leukemia. Needless to say, this was devastating news for his family. Soon their calendar was filled with countless doctor appointments, chemotherapy treatments and physical therapy. As the VanSkiver family fought this long battle, they were given a a shining moment to "escape" from all the medical stress and worry in the form of a Make-A-Wish trip that was granted for their family to go to Disney World!
Fast forward to 2019, Trevor is a cancer survivor playing several sports (that I am blessed to help coach), achieving excellent grades in school and playing electric guitar in a rock band. One thing, in addition to God's grace of healing, that Trev and his family cherish to this day is that special escape to Disney World. It helped boost their spirits and energize their fight against cancer and win!
The unfortunate news is that every year, several kids are unable to have their wish granted before it is too late due to a shortage of funding. The Dream Team is going to do its part to try and put a few more smiles on these courageous kids' faces!
I have accepted the Dream Team challenge! I plan to push myself to swim 1500 meters (boy am I nervous!), bike 40 km and then finish with a 10k run. Friends and family, yes, I am going to try my best to complete an Olympic Triathlon. May God be with me on this journey and help keep my eyes on the prize... helping make Wish kids dreams come true!
More kids are waiting for their wishes to be granted here in Michigan. Will you Please help by donating today?
Thank you for your support!
