In March, 2018; only few months after we moved to our new house (property requiring tons of rehab); our world and dreams crushed. It was when Emma, our younger daughter (at that time only 8 yr old) was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Our priorities have changed, house projects were definitely on hold. I stopped working in order to focus on Emma and her treatment. The focus was Emma! We felt helpless. It all seemed like a bad dream. We all felt for her, her struggles; oftentimes we were on the verge of tears.
At that time, we were not even aware of any foundations that focus on the kids who are sick; One day, during Emma’s home-health visit, the nurse asked us if we knew the “Make-a-Wish” foundation, which makes kids’ dreams come true. She was the one who referred us and that’s how our journey with them began. They make them feel special in every way, help them detach from the horrible reality of being sick and undergoing treatments. They make the process fun and exciting for them and the entire family.
Emma’s wish came true! Our entire family had a well-organized, worry-free, trip to Poland. We traveled throughout the country, visiting amazing, and historical places of Poland. Emma knew it from our stories, now she had the experience of her life, and memories that will stay with her forever. To finalize that amazing gift; at the end of the trip; Emma and our entire family (including her older sister, Stephanie) were able to visit and spend time with grandma in Poland. Everything was planned so precisely, we did not worry about a single thing. We even had a limo taking us to and from the airport. What a memorable and magical experience! Emma will never forget this. She was the star and she felt special throughout the entire time. However, our entire family had an amazing time! Those 2 weeks made us forget about what we all have been through!
It takes a group of special and devoted people. Make-a-Wish really makes the dreams come true! Every sick child deserves to experience it! The foundation aims to help, not only that child, but the entire family, to forget about the struggles, and emotional pain. Our family will always be grateful and onboard with them, to our best abilities. Make-a-Wish made an impact on our lives and it will on others too!
Emma is 2 years post treatments, as of August 2020, and cancer free! Now, we focus on recalling only the fun memories, and this experience was one of them.
Your donation today will help make every wish come true. Together, we can continue to be a light of hope throughout this time of crisis - and beyond.
Thank you, Make-a-Wish!!!
