After a year off due to the pandemic, it is our honor to direct and perform a concert this fall with all proceeds raised going to Make-A-Wish. This is our community's 10th Annual Make-A-Wish benefit concert, built upon the legacies of the families before us who produced and directed those shows over the past decade. The Williamsport community is very familiar with the Make-A-Wish foundation, and the previous successful shows have made an outstanding name for these benefit concerts. We are proud to be carrying on the tradition of raising support and awareness for this great cause, while also being advocates for children and for this foundation.
Make-A-Wish is a foundation that has been alive for 41 years, granting children with life-threatening illnesses one special wish, based on the idea that you should never underestimate the power of a wish. These families go through unimaginable circumstances with their child, and these granted wishes are a light in a dark and scary reality. Make-A-Wish has made a huge impact on both of our own lives, as we have been first-hand witnesses to the power of a wish: the excitement in a child’s voice, the sparkle in their eyes, and the relief on the family's face. There is nothing like restoring a sense of optimism, normalcy and the innocence of childhood.
This show will feature nine different youth-centered songs, and our talented cast – comprised of local high school students – are eager to preform for such a cause. We were inspired to title this 10th Anniversary show “Call it Courage” after the children’s book of the same name, in which the main idea is centered around being brave when everything else is telling you to be afraid. After all the obstacles our world has had to face these past two years – and as we are still battling back from them – it is safe to say that we are all courageous.
“Call it Courage” will be held on November 20, 2021, at the Brandon Park Bandshell in Williamsport. We reserved this outdoor venue so as to abide by CDC guidance designed to limit the risk of COVID-19, and to provide the safest setting for the “wish kids” who will be attending. With the support of the City of Williamsport to use the park’s historic bandshell, we are making this a community event. Students from the Williamsport Area High School art department will be doing face-painting, food and sweets will be available, and there will be plenty of opportunities for the public to donate as much support to Make-A-Wish as their heart desires.
Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes each year. A wish begins with hope. And hope begins with you.
Together, we can grant more wishes. Please donate today.
Thank you for your support!
