Dear Friends and Family,
When our son, Christian was diagnosed with brain cancer, our daily lives were filled with fear and trepidation. Christian was so brave and stoic throughout his surgeries and rigorous treatments. The cancer and all it implied took away valuable aspects of his childhood. He never complained, but we knew that everything he heroically endured took its toll.
Make-A-Wish came into our lives and we all shifted our focus to something wonderful to look forward to. Christian's wish was to go to Disneyworld for his 9th birthday. Thanks to Make-A-Wish and donors like you, we were able to have the most magical time as a family where cancer, radiation, chemo, and frequent medical appointments were not at the forefront of our minds. Replacing our terrifying reality was an incredible opportunity to make memories. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Christian in the middle of the Magic Kingdom where he excitedly declared, "This is the best birthday ever!.
Christian's Disney birthday was, sadly, his last. His cancer recurred and we lost our sweet boy three days before his tenth birthday. The trip Make-A-Wish sent us on gave our family some of the best, most happy memories of our Christian. The experience was healing, it renewed all of us, restored our spirits, and Christian was able to be a kid again even if only for a short time.
