Here's a little story from Payson's Wish Trip on the Disney Dream:
"The third night of the cruise was Pirate Night, and Disney kept hyping the show and fireworks up on top level of the ship at 10:45pm. We made our way up there, with pretty much everybody else, and the place was packed. The pirate show started, and just before the fireworks were going to launch, a freaking downpour hit. Deluge. People scattered for shelter, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria, and our family got split up, all of us looking to get out of the monsoon.
I found a spot, turned to look back outside, and there were maybe 10 people left out there. Among them, this little nine year old cancer kid, jamming to the pirate music and watching the fireworks in the downpour, totally loving every second. Glorious.
We all rushed back out with a few other brave souls and partied in the rain. I’ll never forget the five Inkley kids, dancing in the rain, watching the fireworks, just living the moment.
Payson has been through it, but they’ve all been through it together. What a great freaking moment, a tiny moment that captures what we’ve tried to do the past couple years. Dancing in the rain, watching the fireworks."
Payson was diagnosed with Leukemia three days before his 7th birthday. His treatment and recovery has been a heavy challenge for our family. He's doing so great, but we always remember the journey.
We're helping Make-A-Wish with fundraising to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. It's truly amazing what wishes can do - give kids renewed energy and strength, bring families closer together and unite communities.
We have this picture of all of the patient wristbands Payson got on his treatment visits to the hospital. It's this reminder of all of those hard days, which seemed endless.
The thing is, when your family is in the middle of something like that, hope is everything. You cling to any positive, uplifting, inspiring thing you can. You count little wins as giant blessings. You keep going in large part because of the kindness and charity of the people around you.
That's Make-A-Wish. It's hope.
And while Payson's wish trip of a Disney Cruise in 2019 was the absolute stuff that dreams are made of, the experience wasn't the best part for us. The best part was the hope. So much hope, on all the hard days. Something incredible to look forward to, provided by people who just want to help. The hope was the thing.
So, we're helping Make-A-Wish raise money to spread even more hope to families in the middle of life changing challenges.
Now more than ever, the world needs the hope of a wish come true. Together, we can help grant more wishes. Please donate what you can, and, as always, thank you for your support!
Let's kick this pig!
