Kade Wetzel’s Make a Wish story
Kade was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth due to an incident with his birth mother. My family was given the opportunity to adopt Kade and we were placed in his life when he was two-month-old. Kade’s life was not easy but he continued to smile know matter how he felt that day.
When Kade was 5 years old 2019 he was admitted to the hospital 6 times from December-June. Placed in the ICU.
In June Rainbow Kids arranged for Kade to be granted a wish. June was his last hospital stay, Kade let us know he was done being there and we made the hard decision to put him on hospice.
We had taken Kade to Disney Land before and he LOVED it. The music, and charters left a permanent smile on Kade’s face. We decided for Kade’s wish we would do Disney World in December.
As the year went on and fall came, we knew Kade would not make it until December his little body had decided it was tired. I could not believe how fast Make A Wish acted when we notified them Kade wouldn’t be around much longer.
They brought Mickey and Minnie Mouse to him in August. As well as Kade’s favorite food, snow cones and cotton candy. It was a very intimate setting, Mickey and Minnie Mouse both sat on each side of Kade’s pea pod chair and sang to him and rubbed his hands. Kade was star struck as he looked up and Mickey’s face. The man playing Mickey sat next to Kade for a good hour in silence taking the moment in. it brought tears to all of our eyes as we watched them connect.
This was only the wish granting party! We discussed other wishes that could be granted for Kade. The one thought that kept coming to me is “I would love to see the look at Kade’s face if he had the opportunity to meet President Neilson.”
The month before we had Kade’s biological sister Autumn sealed to us, and Kade face was remarkable and glorious as we were in the temple.
We were not able to meet President Nelson, but had the opportunity to meet with Elder Holland. It was an amazing experience! My family meant him in his office were Kade was given lots of hugs and kisses from him and sat behind Elder Hollands desk with him. Kade could not stop looking at him. Elder Holland gave each of my kids a present as well as spoiled Kade with books, and Mickey Mouse stuffed animals and a paw patrol blanket.
Kade passed away on November 30th and we continue to received e-mails and positive messages from Elder Holland, who has now become a family friend.
This foundation is amazing and continues to still give, just yesterday 5 month later I received a package in the mail of a glass star with Kade’s name printed on it. It brought tears to my eyes as I was reminded of the memories, we were given threw Make a Wish
