Walk With Dylan's Super Squad!

We formed Dylan’s Super Squad in 2017 after our son Dylan was born in 2016 with Chronic Kidney Disease. He was given a grim outlook and spent his first 25 days of life in the NICU. He was diagnosed with CKD, Grade 5 Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and hydronephrosis. His kidneys were not his only problem, he was also diagnosed with bladder dysfunction and was unable to urinate on his own.

Since that time Dylan has been a little medical miracle. His doctors are surprised with his health so far. Between seeing his pediatrician, nephrologist and urologist routinely, he also has routine lab work and studies such as ultra sounds, urodynamics and VCUG’s. With all of his medical intervention Dylan’s kidneys have been functioning at stable levels which we couldn’t be happier with.

In December of 2018 Dylan had his first surgery performed by his urologist. He was in surgery for 6 hours where 2 surgeons disconnected all 4 of his ureters (people usually only have 2) and reconnected them in a different part of his bladder. They also removed what they think was a ureterocele and put in temporary stents to help his ureters heal correctly. He had a foley and SP tube placed to help things heal.

Since surgery Dylan has been able to pee all on his own! Which was life changing for all of us. Unfortunately, the surgery did not help improve his vesicoureteral reflux which continues to put his kidneys at continued risk of failure. Fortunately, with all of his testing since surgery Dylan’s kidneys are functioning at normal levels still.

Dylan battles Kidney Disease and there are so many children battling all sorts of different illnesses, which is why we choose to support the Make-A-Wish foundation by participating as a team at the Walk for Wishes walk in Elk Grove Village on October 20, 2024.
