2021 Walk For Wishes, Illinois

Beauty & the Brain

Walk With Us. Wish With Us.

Our story:

*October 2018. Kinsley was born with a mass in her abdomen, not knowing what it was, but assuming it was a cyst. After birth, the doctors said she looked good and sent us home, hoping the mass/cyst would dissolve on its own. At 2 months old, we took her to her pediatrician, as she was inconsolable. The doctor sent us right to Lutheran General - thinking the mass was causing her pain. After tests and doctors rushing in and out, machines all over her, they found a heart murmur and a small hole in her heart as well. The cardiologist cleared her for surgery. She ended up having her right ovary completely removed. While in utero, her right ovary twisted due to the mass, causing torsion, killing off that ovary. We were sent home on a Saturday evening. Thank the Lord she still has her left one. She goes yearly for check ups.

*Sunday Rylynn started complaining of a headache. With it being a long weekend already - we gave her some tylonel and told her to rest. Monday, Jimmy goes to work, and I am home with Kinsley and Lucas stayed home sick from school. Jimmy calls me on his lunch and Rylynn started screaming of a headache. Jimmy leaves work and takes her to Northwestern in Grayslake. I thought she was coming down with strep. The doctor ordered an immediate CT as he saw something in her eyes. A little over an hour later, I get a call of crying... screaming... it was Jimmy... Jimmy tells me they found a large brain tumor! What? No... are you sure? Is it maybe a small cyst? Is it under the skin or in the brain? My mind was in shock! They transport them to Lutheran General. We all rush there and 2 days later, she underwent a 7 hour brain surgery. The doctor came out and said he was 98% sure he was able to remove the whole tumor, but was unsure about Rylynn being able to walk or swallow without intense physical therapy, as he had to tug a bit at the tumor, it was attached to her brain stem. My heart sank. 3 days after surgery, she was up and moving, walking, and eating chicken nuggets! Wow! Tough girl! Ry was diagnosed with a rare tumor, called a JPA grade 1. BENIGN! We have a long road ahead still, of appointments and MRIs. 8.5 more years. But with the prayers, love, and support we still receive, it makes things so much easier! Thank you!

*2020 Update with Rylynn: The 'white spot' on her brain is no longer there, according to her neurosurgeon Dr. Ruge! Praise the Lord! With that being said - Rylynn was promoted to sedated MRI's once a year now, as long as we stay on this amazing track! 7 more years to go!

*2021 Update with Rylynn: Rylynn enjoyed Kindergarten this year! She had an amazing teacher with some amazing extra teachers to help along the way! Her next sedated MRI will be around October! Keep the prayers and love! Thank you all so much!

MAKE A WISH
We we're beyond blessed to hear we were nominated by our Neurosurgeon for a Wish! How amazing! And it was beyond words can describe. Rylynn chose to go to Disney World. We had an absolutely incredible time. We stayed at Give Kids the World - which was a whole other world! It was breathtaking. We also were able to go to Disney World, Universal, and Sea World. Rylynn was honored to have a playdate with Princess Belle at the Make a Wish Centre at Disney World. She and our family had, hands down, the best time of our lives. I pray that we can help to bring other wishes true - so children can have the magical, memorable, experience that we did.

On that note...
We are extremely excited and blessed to be a part of Walk for Wishes/Make a Wish, for the 3rd year, after Rylynn and Kinsley's surgeries! Make a Wish has been amazing to the girls and our family, and we are blessed to be a part of this
