I have been volunteering with Make-A-Wish for over nine years and in that time I have helped to grant fifteen wishes (and working on more)! These have been wishes to travel to Disney, the Pacific Northwest, Australia and Hawaii in addition to shopping sprees, room makeovers and even an ACT tutor. What all of these wishes had in common was that each wish brought that child immense joy and hope. I’ve seen firsthand how a wish can impact a child’s life, uplift their spirits and encourage their belief in the impossible.
I am committed to raising money for Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses. Every hour of every day three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. That's 27,000 children a year. Wishes provide what medicine cannot – extraordinary and memorable experiences that make an illness the least of a child’s worries, while a sense of normalcy comes into focus. It’s truly amazing what a wish come true can do for a wish kid! In addition to giving them the experience of a lifetime, parents, health professionals and volunteers agree that a wish empowers wish kids to fight harder against their illnesses.
Our vision is to grant the wish of every child with a critical illness in Illinois. This is not possible without the help of each community across the state. There is an opportunity within each community to participate and support Make-A-Wish through Walk for Wishes! These life-changing wishes are only possible because of supporters like us. A wish experience can truly change a child’s life, and so can we.
