From the moment I heard about the SC Trailblaze Challenge, I knew it was something I needed to do.
On April 13, 2024, I will be hiking 24 miles in honor of Make-A-Wish South Carolina kids and their families, and to raise funds and awareness to help grant their wishes.
If you aren’t familiar with the Make-A-Wish organization, their purpose is to make a dream come true for a critically ill child. Fulfilling this dream brings joy, hope, and light into an incredibly dark time in a family’s life. I personally know several families who have been affected by cancer and debilitating illnesses in childhood, and my takeaway is that it’s one the most heartbreaking situations anyone could ever find themselves in. I want to help.
This challenge requires a lot of mileage, it’s a lot of money to raise, and it all makes me nervous, but I know this is nothing in comparison to the physical pain of kids in the battle for their lives, and to the stress and worry of their families.
On a more personal note, while it never worked out for me to have kids of my own, I believe that part of my purpose is to help “stand in the gap” for parents when they need a hand up. I consider it an honor to have this opportunity, and am motivated to give it my best.
My minimum fundraising goal is $2500, and I hope to absolutely SMASH it! Would you like to join in and help?
I appreciate your time in reading this, and would be genuinely grateful for anything you could give. Thank you so much!
