I have to admit that when I first heard about this challenge the physical aspect of it sounded more appealing to me since I enjoy hiking and the outdoors. Plus it would give me an opportunity to meet new people and be a part of something bigger. The fundraising component is what is more daunting since I generally don’t like asking others for money even though 85% of the proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
It wasn’t until I went to an informational session and learned more about the organization and what these wishes really mean for these critically ill kids that I committed to participating. It really gave me an appreciation and sense of gratitude not only for my own health but for the normal childhood I experienced. These kids spend most of their days in a hospital bed being poked and prodded and in enormous amounts of pain and discomfort. And it’s not only the kids who are affected but their families as well. Granting them their wish gives these kids and their loved ones a day of normalcy, hope and positivity. This is something we all deserve and should be granted for many days not just one. Some of the wishes I heard about range from a trip to Disneyland to being a cop for a day to something as simple as eating a banana split for breakfast or touring a pickle factory. I mean who wouldn’t want to do that!
28 miles may sound like a lot, but what these kids face every day is so much more challenging. Please help support me in my effort to help grant more wishes to kids. I appreciate your donation and hope you can help and be a part of something that brings smiles to kids faces.
Thank you,
Meredith
