Every year that I am blessed to remain healthy and intact, I am moved to focus on all that a loving, compassionate community provided for me in some frightening and challenging days. With my own dance with mortality fresh in my Soul, I know what a gift life is - I also know that having something or someone to focus on when battling the sorrow and fear that can consume you, is as essential as any other thing.
I am excited to take on this year’s Trailblaze Challenge to raise money for Make-A-Wish. I'll hike 28 miles on the Pacific Coast Trail - all in one day - to align my feet with my faith. Both 28 miles of hiking and the goal of $2500 can seem lofty....until I remember what can happen when we partner with the power of Love. As a teacher, I have worked with kids who have been recipients of wishes who have fondly shared the critical role the wishes played in their lives. These wishes provide a lifeline that creates a space for hope and healing. They give these children and their famlies an opportunity to regain their footing. And so, I have committed myself to raising this money for Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses knowing with certainty that, with your help, anything is possible.
Wish kids are some of the bravest and sweetest kids you'll ever know. When given an opportunity to "dream" - they become wrapped in possibility. LIFE comes at them, full force, much earlier than we expect to be equipped to handle such profound challenges. They reveal so much to the onlookers. Their innocence and unexpected wisdom stays perched on your heart, giving light to a clearer vision for our world.
Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes each year. A lot, yes. But that’s only 50% of eligible kids. I’m fundraising so more incredible kids and their families can know the happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
