The Trailblaze Challenge is a 26.3 mile hike through Silver Falls State Park. It is not a race but a way to raise awareness and funds for Make-A-Wish of Oregon- this a physical challenge that is meant to mirror the challenges faced by children with critical illnesses.
Silver Falls State Park is called the “crown jewel” of Oregon State Parks with 1 million visitors per year. Truly, it is one of the most beautiful hikes in the world- located in a lush valley, a magical forest dotted with wildflowers and waterfalls. I have so many memories in this park- including family reunions and birthdays in a tiny house village!
I’ve accepted the challenge to hike for wishes this summer. Dave said he wants to be there by my side so he has accepted the challenge also. We both have had family members with critical illnesses (although not children). I have seen the fear, the worry, the time, recovery- unseen details and also the love and hope and faith that comes through that journey. To honor all of the beautiful, wonderful souls who could benefit from a wish granted, I want to walk these miles.
