My amazing wife and I have three kids, two boys (8 and 13) and one girl (4). Our daughter, Juniper, was diagnosed with catastrophic epilepsy at the age of 6 months old and now has profound disabilities. Despite trying over 18 different medications and two brain surgeries (ultimately removing her right hemisphere), she has persevered and really shown us the joy in life. Even though she's non-speaking, she is very social, content, and exudes happiness.
Juniper had her own wish granted by Oregon Make-A-Wish early last year. Her wish was a travel trailer that we have used as a family to bridge the gap between the necessary amenities of home (seizure monitor, temperature regulation, sound machine, etc.), and the beauty of the outdoors. It was a game-changer, and filled a big hole in our hearts that we had been missing since Juniper's diagnosis. Our family loves supporting Make-A-Wish's annual Trailblaze Challenge because it lets us raise donations to fund other kids' wishes while also enjoying the outdoors. The Trailblaze Challenge is a 26.3-mile hike around Silver Falls State Park on July 12, 2024. Last year, it took us 10.5 hours to complete; it was hard and physically demanding, but our daughter inspires us by doing hard things everyday.
