Hello Friends and Family-
I hope this correspondence finds you well. On my 60th birthday many amazing things happened and it was a day I will never forget. Two unexpected moments occurred. My childhood friend, Laura (we ran track, opposing competitors, from 11-18 & college roommates) was there to celebrate my birthday and the other her invitation to join her team, "Miles for Smiles", along with our other college roommate, to do a hike to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Foundation.
As many of you know, I love a good physical challenge. We will hike 26.3 miles in a day which feels a little on the "Holy Cow" side of things. We are training and I'm confident by July I will somehow make the trek and finish, leaving all the hills and rock scrambles behind.
More than the opportunity to do this with my friends, I am thrilled to raise funds for Make-A-Wish. In my work and my relationships with those who have children in their lives, I see the tough moments some of them have to endure due to critical medical conditions which are often accompanied by stress on the family and mental health challenges. Some of these illnesses are life threatening.
Make-A-Wish started in the early 80's after the community of Phoenix, primarily law enforcement, came together to help make a 7 year old boys dream come true, to become a police officer. They brought joy and peace to this little guy who earned his badge and two days later lost his battle with his medical condition. In his hospital bed, he wore his personally tailored police uniform with pride, badge in hand, and touched many inspired by the power of a dream.
Everyday I am grateful for the life I have been given. I would like to invite you to help me raise funds and reach my goal so together we can bring a smile to a child's lips, add a twinkle to their eyes, bring joy to their heart, and forget for the moment the unknown hurdles which lie ahead. If you are in a place to do so, please make a donation which collectively will bring hope and goodness in a time where some may feel there is only darkness. We are all like a granule of sand on this earth but together we can create a beautiful beachscape which can transform an empty space into a beautiful place.
With so much appreciation,
Heidi
An Important Fact: Did you know that Make-A-Wish grants more than 15,000 wishes nationwide every year? That’s a lot, yes. But that’s only 50% of the eligible kids. Every hour of every day, on average, three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. Every one of these kids needs a wish to give them strength and help them heal.
Will you help me support Make-A-Wish by donating today?
