As you may recall, the first 20 years of our involvement with Make a Wish consisted of a Triathlon at Bethany Beach. The past 4 years the Foundation’s premier fundraising race has been this Trailblaze hike. Over that period of time, our fundraising efforts totaled $206,948, which has paid for an estimated 40 wishes for local Wish children.
As a side note, this year is particularly special to me. In preparation for the Trailblaze Challenge, I’m happy to report that my teenage children will this year be helping the old man train by bringing back Monahan participation in a beach Triathlon (First Responders’ Triathlon in Bethany Beach on September 22). Michael will be doing the .62 mile ocean swim, I will do the 18.5 mile bike ride, and Katie will bring it home with her 4.5 mile run. Mom will cheer us all on to each finish.
If you ever have an opportunity to attend a Make a Wish event, please consider taking advantage of it. Witness first-hand what your generous sacrifices make in the lives of these children. It truly does help me to keep things – and life – in perspective.
