I am so excited to take on my second Trailblaze Challenge!
My Aunt Elinor passed away in December of 2020. When my dad passed away when I was younger, Aunt Elinor was the one who always tried to keep the family connected. She always wanted the cousins to stay in touch and made a point to call my sisters and I. One of my favorite things about her was that she spelled my name incorrectly on every birthday card she ever sent me. It always made me laugh, and I loved knowing that she thought of me each year. When Aunt Elinor retired, she devoted time to volunteering with Make-A-Wish Maine- something I never knew till she passed. Well, I guess I am following in her footsteps, because this year I completely the process to become a Wish Granter! Taking part in this event is a way to stay connected to her, and I know she would love that I was doing it. As my cousin said to me "She would have been there at the finish line to meet you!" I am so excited to take on this challenger in her honor. In addition to the physical challenge, I have committed myself to raising the critical funds necessary for Make-A-Wish to grant the one true wish for each eligible child with a critical illness. With your help, it’s possible.
Did you know that Make-A-Wish grants more than 15,000 wishes nationwide every year? That’s a lot, yes. But that’s only 50% of the eligible kids. Every hour of every day, on average, three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. Every one of these kids needs a wish to give them strength and help them heal. I’m fundraising so more deserving kids and their families can know the true happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
