One of my biggest inspirations for supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation is Darby. Darby is the 11 year old son of dear friends of mine. In January of 2018, Darby was diagnosed with Leigh's Syndrome, a rare progressive genetic mitochondrial disease. Darby's mobility has been greatly impacted by Leigh's and eventually it could affect all of his body systems. He is one of the sweetest, kindest kids you could ever meet with a magnetic personality that graces all who know him. In 2019, Darby was granted his wish to to go to Disney World. It was a wonderful time for his family to have fun together and to have a reprieve from the daily worries and management of his illness. We are inspired to hike and raise funds so that other kids like Darby can have a wish fulfilled.
Wish kids are some of the bravest and sweetest kids you'll ever know. They wish to work in a pickle factory, become a superhero, go snorkeling, give their baseball team new uniforms, and push all of the buttons in a tall building's elevator. Their innocence and unexpected wisdom stays with you.
Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes each year. A lot, yes. But that’s only 50% of eligible kids. We’re fundraising so more deserving kids and their families can know the happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
