2021 Fall Trailblaze Challenge - Lavonia, GA

Walkin' Wildcats

Hi. We are Katie and Lauren. We work together at Trinity Episcopal School, one of our favorite places in all the world, raising money in support of the school’s incredible mission and Wildcat teachers and students. (plus a few other sporty side hustles like coaching basketball and Girls on the Run!) Over the last few years as colleagues, we’ve realized we have several things in common, including, but not limited to:

  • Snacks are a central part of our days
  • We are suckers for a good targeted Instagram ad / or promo email
  • We commiserate on all parts of motherhood: both the warm and fuzzy and ridiculous (and memes to illustrate this journey are always appreciated)

But arguably the most important element of our partnership is a shared passion for kids. It’s at the heart of why we’ve chosen to do what we do each day in our careers but also in our personal lives. Outside of Trinity, our volunteer roles and passions surround youth and child focused causes. Katie serves on the board for Time Out Youth where she advocates for LGBTQ+ teens in our community. Lauren came to Trinity from Make-A-Wish, which still holds a prominent spot in her heart.

One pandemic-crazy day, as a Trailblaze targeted ad appeared on our screens, these commonalities (see: free snacks and children) seemed to be calling us to take on this challenge.

We're participating in the Trailblaze Challenge not just to personally challenge ourselves (though that is an added perk), but as moms, we know the healing power of simple joys. We've seen a simple pedicure and lunch date heal the big sister blues and a backyard beach party soften the blow of a COVID cancelled family vacation. What wish families go through is unfathomable. Unimaginable. The idea that we might be able to help lighten that load through the joy of a wish is overwhelmingly powerful to us. (Plus, we heard there are Uncrustables on the trail.)

Wishes are a crucial part of a child’s treatment. There is healing and hope in the whole wish process. We can’t do it without you - please consider supporting our journey as we set off to hike 28.3 miles (in the wilderness, no less. Who are we?!) to raise vital funds and grant local wishes. An incredible wish dad once said to me (Lauren), “Make-A-Wish cured cancer for a week.” I will think of those words at each mile of this journey. Thank you for your funds and support for children in our community at the time they need it most.
