What is it about turning a "milestone" age that causes a person to desire to accomplish something they've never done before? On February 28, I will hit the 70th year of my life on this earth and I am excited to take on this year's Make-A-Wish Trailblaze Challenge!
On May 6, I will embark on a one day, 26.3 mile hike on the Pinhoti Trail with my girl, Lynlee Gilmer (team name: The Blister Sisters). In addition to the physical challenge, I have committed to raising much needed funds for Make-A-Wish, which grants wishes for children with a critical illness. Like most people, I am a bit uncomfortable asking others for donations, but Make-A-Wish grants more than 15,000 wishes nationwide every year. That’s a lot, yes, but that’s only 50% of the eligible kids. Every hour of every day, on average, three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. Every one of these kids needs a wish to give them strength and help them heal. I’m fundraising so that more deserving kids and their families can know the true happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
