I am excited to announce that I have signed up for the Trailblaze Challenge endurance event to benefit Make-A-Wish Alabama! The Trailblaze Challenge is a 12-week journey culminating in a challenging 26.3 mile hike along the Pinhoti Trail. During the 12 weeks leading up to the hike I will be fundraising for much needed funds to grant the wishes of children with critical illness. Last year I was able to help Jeff Chopin raise over $8,000 for Make-A-Wish Alabama, enough to fund 1 wish for a child on the wish waiting list in Alabama! With your help and support, I hope to reach this goal again!
THE CHALLENGE: From couch to a 26.3 mile hike on the Pinhoti Trail. After 12 weeks of training and fundraising, I will start my one day journey of challenging climbs, switchbacks, and descents over steep rocky slopes in solitude and seclusion deep within the Southern Appalachian wilderness. On this one day, I will conquer the most rugged and wild hiking you can find in the Southeast.
MY WHY: I’m fundraising so more deserving kids and their families can know the happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring. Currently there are 275 kids waiting for their wish in Alabama and now more than ever they need our help. The average wish costs $8,000 so my goal is to raise enough money to help make one life-changing wish possible for a critically ill child in Alabama. I have completed 1 marathon and a few half-marathons; however, I know the TrailBlaze Challenge will be the most challenging and rewarding endurance event yet.
ABOUT: Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Every hour of every day, three children are diagnosed with a critical illness. Every one of these kids needs a wish to give them strength and help them heal. A study commission by Make-A-Wish found that patients who were granted a wish were more likely to have fewer unplanned hospital and emergency department visits.
These life-changing wishes are only possible because of supporters like us. A wish experience can truly change a child’s life, and so can we.
