Keith, Ashley, and I are thrilled to take on this year’s Trailblaze Challenge. In addition to the physical challenge, we have committed ourselves to raising the essential funds necessary for Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses. We hike because we know the power of a wish.
I was diagnosed with leukemia at five years old, and the treatment protocol involved frequent week-long hospital stays, and intense chemotherapy. That chemotherapy caused unpleasant side effects and setbacks including baldness, extreme nausea, and most of all- decreased immunity. Because of that decreased immunity, I spent most of my time either in the hospital, at a doctor’s office, or at home. During my imposed isolation, I spent a lot of time watching Disney movies, playing with Barbies, and coloring. Around the time of one of my biggest setbacks, a representative from Make-A-Wish Alabama stopped by my hospital room and told me that my wish was going to be granted! I immediately knew what I wanted and was so excited to be able to meet the characters that had kept me company during treatment. I was going to Disney World!
Today, Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes each year. A lot, yes. But that’s only 50% of eligible kids, and now more than ever every child needs something positive to look forward to. We’re fundraising so more deserving kids and their families may know the true happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
Please help us support this impactful mission by helping us hit our Trailblaze Challenge fundraising goal and sharing the Trailblaze content on our social media feeds. Thank you for your support!
