We are excited to be a part of Make-A-Wish Alabama's Trailblaze Challenge once again! This year we won't be hiking, but are sponsoring one of the 26 miles to inspire other hikers with the courage and fighting spirit of our son, Bryce. A sign with words of encouragement and pictures of Bryce will be posted at Mile #24. He'll be there as a reminder to Keep Fighting and Never Give Up.
For 12 months, our sweet Bryce courageously battled DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma)- an inoperable brain tumor within the brain stem. Bryce died on December 14th, 2017 at the age of 6. He and our family were fortunate enough to have his wish granted in June 2017- to play football on a real football field with his family and the Denver Broncos. Bryce's wish trip was a defining moment in his (and our entire family's) fight against this incurable cancer.
We believe that there are two things that Bryce was a part of that encouraged him to stay positive, energized him, and improved his quality of life. One was being a member of the local high school baseball team after their coach reached out to us. The other was his Wish Trip. It brought pure joy to him and brightened his life. And it showed us some good in a time when the world was being so cruel, something that we are still fighting through now. However, it is these memories that help us keep perspective and hope. These wishes aren’t just for the wish kid. They may be focused on them, but they are for the entire family. Tyler, Carson, Suzy, and I have memories, videos, pictures, and mementos that we cherish because of Make-A-Wish. Words will never be able to express our true gratitude for this organization and the people that make dreams come true for so many children.
Please help us honor Bryce by granting other kids their wish, creating memories for their families that will be cherished forever. Thank you for your support!
