2023-2024 NCAA Division II Grants Wishes

Cal Poly Humboldt

We started this fundraiser to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. Community engagement is a core value of NCAA Division II, and the passion for giving back runs deep for our student-athletes. That’s why we support Make-A-Wish® to help grant wishes to children with critical illnesses. Wish kids are some of the bravest and sweetest kids you'll ever know. They wish to work in a pickle factory, become a superhero, go snorkeling, give their baseball team new uniforms, and push all of the buttons in a tall building's elevator. Their innocence and unexpected wisdom stays with you.

This year, Cal Poly Humboldt's Student Athlete Advisory Committee is working to raise money for Charlie. He is the sweetest and most resilient kid with a very inspiring story. Charlie is 7 years old and was diagnosed with leukemia at 14 months, and received a bone marrow transplant a few years later. Despite the constant hospital visits, Charlie was able to find some sense of normalcy after the transplant and was able to flourish in his extraverted nature in school. Unfortunately, during the pandemic Charlie had to strictly isolate due to his compromised immune system, and it really took a hit to his overall morale and wellbeing. Out of anything in the world, Charlie's wish is to get a hot tub. This is something our Humboldt teams are working to make come true.

Workout for Wishes is a fundraising program where our athletic department completes a workout that is significant to Charlie's medical journey. This workout is impactful because while it is challenging, it's a fraction of the pain Charlie has endured.

A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their critical illnesses. For many, the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses. Doctors, nurses and other health professionals say, the wish experience works in concert with medicine to make their patients feel better emotionally and even physically. That is why wishes matter.

We are fundraising so more courageous kids and their families can know the happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring. Please help by donating today.
