Freezin' for Logan's Fight
We’re so excited (and honestly a little nervous!) to be jumping into the icy waters at the 2025 Long Beach Polar Bear Plunge in honor of our son, Logan Hughes—a little boy with a big heart who inspires us every single day.
In February 2023, our lives changed forever when we heard the words no parent ever wants to hear: “Your baby has cancer.” Logan was just 10 months old when doctors found a 7.5 cm tumor in his left kidney and diagnosed him with Wilms tumor, a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. Within days, Logan had a major surgery at NYU Langone Long Island to remove the tumor and his kidney. He was so strong, even as he recovered in the hospital while his big brother Brody stayed nearby with grandparents, bringing us little moments of comfort during such a scary time.
As if that wasn’t enough, genetic testing confirmed Logan’s cancer was an aggressive type, which meant six months of weekly chemotherapy. His treatments began just days after his first birthday. That time was a blur of chemo appointments, physical therapy sessions, and visits to specialists—psychologists, cardiologists, genetic counselors, urologists, nephrologists—you name it, Logan probably had an appointment for it. Our days were consumed with managing side effects, giving him medications, and trying to make sure he hit his milestones. It was exhausting and heartbreaking, but Logan’s resilience amazed us. He smiled, played, and pushed through like the superhero he is.
Today, we’re thrilled to say Logan is out of treatment! He’s still being monitored closely for the next five years with regular scans to make sure the cancer hasn’t returned. Every three months, we visit his oncologist, and he continues to see other specialists to stay on top of potential long-term side effects from chemo. Logan even had another surgery in December 2024 to place ear tubes and remove his adenoids, and once again, he handled it like a champ.
Now, we’re looking forward to something truly special: Logan’s Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World in 2025, where he’ll finally get to meet Mickey Mouse. For our family, this trip isn’t just a vacation—it’s a chance to breathe, laugh, and just be together after everything we’ve been through. Make-A-Wish is giving us a gift we’ll never forget, and it’s inspired us to give back.
That’s why we’re fundraising—to help more kids like Logan experience the joy and hope a wish can bring. These wishes don’t just make kids smile; they bring families a sense of relief and normalcy during the hardest times of their lives.
We’d love for you to join us in honoring Logan’s journey by supporting our Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser. Every donation helps bring a wish to life for another child fighting their own battle.
Thank you for being part of this with us. Your kindness, support, and belief in the power of a wish mean more than we can say. ❤
