It was a crisp, clear and beautiful Saturday morning in San Francisco. We walked 2.6 miles, jumped into the bay, and pulled a cable car. Thanks to you, our team had a great time and raised over $6300 to help other children's wishes come true.
Our family is participating in the 2018 Brave The Bay on Saturday, December 8, 2018. We will Walk, Plunge and Pull to raise funds for Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses (please see our Team Page link for more details about the 2018 Brave The Bay).
My son, Matthew, was 13 ½ years old when he was diagnosed with leukemia cancer type ALL. He was two days from playing in his first football game, and five days away from starting 8th grade. The next 3 1/2 years were very difficult. Thanks to the tremendous treatment and care he received at UCSF, and the love and support of family and friends including you, Matthew beat cancer in November 2017.
There were no easy days throughout those years of treatments. However, there was one very enjoyable week thanks to the wish granted by Make-A-Wish. Matthew's wish was to go on a baseball stadium tour. Along with his family, Matthew enjoyed Fenway Park (Boston Red Sox), Yankee Stadium, and Citi Field (NY Mets). We all still smile as we remember those great times watching baseball, eating hot dogs, making new friends and purchasing a baseball hat from each stadium. That trip was a bright spot in the middle of an extremely difficult and painful journey to beat cancer.
"Wish kids" are some of the bravest and sweetest kids you will ever know. They wish to be Batman for a day, go snorkeling with bright colored fish, give their baseball team new uniforms, or push all of the buttons in a tall building's elevator. Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes each year.
Matthew is now on the Make-A-Wish Youth Advisory Board. We are helping Make-A-Wish raise funds so more deserving kids and their families can know the happiness, relief and renewal a wish can bring.
Please help me support this great cause by joining me or making a donation to my 2018 Brave The Bay fundraising goal. Thank you for your support!
