This all started when MK saw a flyer about the Trailblaze Challenge and thought, “that might be a fun fitness challenge!” John wasn’t so sure.
But as we learned more about Make-A-Wish we realized we wanted to support this wonderful organization for what they give to the kids and their families. Our motivation has changed completely from a “fun fitness challenge ” to a true mission of granting a wish to a child.
Make-A-Wish grants thousands of unique wishes every year. These kids make some great wishes: to work in a pickle factory, become a superhero, go snorkeling, give their team new uniforms, and even to push all the buttons in a tall building’s elevator.
Make-A-Wish Alabama has granted more than 850 wishes to children in Alabama since 2012. There are currently around 250 kids eligible and waiting for a wish in Alabama — about 80 here in north Alabama.
Wish kids are some of the bravest and sweetest kids there are. At our first Trailblaze meeting we met an awesome little boy, his sister, and their parents. His wish had been granted recently and was one of the most popular wishes: to go to Disney World. The joy on his face when telling us about his trip was overwhelming. The entire family had an experience they will never forget.
We would like to provide other kids with a life experience they will never forget. TEAM SIKES is committed to raising $5000 for this great cause. But wouldn’t it be great if we got to $8000 - the cost of the average wish?
With your help we can make a direct impact on the lives of children in our community with critical illnesses.
In May we will hike a 26.3-mile section of the Pinhoti Trail in Talladega National Forest. If the first few weeks of training are any indication, it’s going to be quite a physical and mental challenge. But our challenge is nothing compared to the challenges faced by these kids.
We challenge YOU to join us on the trail to granting a child’s wish!
With your help we can make a direct impact on kids in our community living with critical illnesses. Please donate to this great cause through TEAM SIKES or one of our personal fundraising pages.
No donation is too small (or too generous!).
Thank you for your support.
